Chalk Mural: 2010 Detroit Electronic Music Festival

The 2010 Detroit Electronic Music Festival kicked off Saturday May 29 on the weekend of Memorial Day 2010. Saturday the gates opened and Techno fans and followers from all over the world visited Detroits’s Hart Plaza for a 3 day festival of art, music, and great times. I was scheduled to perform live art of my 2011 Ford Fiesta Mural on May 31″Memorial Day”. Watching the weather channel religiously the entire weekend; the signs of a huge storm was rolling in that left me on call and ready go. The weather was not going to cooperate so the go ahead was given by Ford a day early on May 30, 2010. I loaded up the supplies and headed to Hart Plaza anxious and ready to get in there and put my mark on Tech Fest. I arrived at the site around 11 a.m prepared for a long day which turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year in Detroit without a cloud in the sky and temperatures reaching into the 90′s. I began to layout my line work for what would become a 20′ x 15′ Ford Fiesta inspired mural for the creative marketing team at Ford Motor Company. I cruised around the pavement up and down and up and down and walking around blending colors, cutting in details, and drinking water like a fish. With only one day to complete the piece and knowing rain was coming the next day; the pressure was on to complete the job within a day for which normally called for a full two days worth of work. At the end of the day as the sun began to set the job was done at 8p.m. I worked throughout the day smack dab in the middle of 100,00o people walking around Hart Plaza with Techno vibrating throughout the entire day. This was truly a dream come true and such a wonderful experience. I wanna thank Jackie, Holly, Ford, Team Detroit, Paxahau, Metamorphic Events and everyone else involved that made this all possible.
